Rend your heart

Joel 2:13 -So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the LORD your God,
For He is gracious and merciful,
Slow to anger, and of great kindness;
And He relents from doing harm.

The other day at church I was in a time of worship and God convicted me and said “Don’t just worship me Ben give me your heart”. I realized that I had been playing the game. I was putting on a show and I wasn’t really surrendering all I have to God. I believe this is a word for the Christians of today. In Joel 2 it says: So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the LORD your God. God is sick and tired of us playing our games. So many times we put on a show during worship. We want other people to see us. We want people to think we are truly worshiping, but we aren’t. What is God longing for? Well it’s pretty simple if you read Joel 2. He wants us to rend our hearts. If you look up rend in the dictionary it means: To rip out violently. He wants us to radically give our hearts and our all to him. His eyes are searching the earth for those with a pure heart and one pure desire for God and God alone. A cry is going for for a people who have given up the ways of the world and are tired of playing the religious game. He is raising up a bride who gives Him their all. Their time and money and most importantly their hearts.

i’m reading ur write up today bcos God had spoken this same word to me and i decided to search on the web for comments.
My congregation is on a 21 days fast, during one of the prayer section This same word came to me and I believe the Lord is asking me not just to go without food (which is our garment rendering today but to yield our heart totally to Him in true repentance.

I’m 23 and our generation the “millenials” are a broken generation. We’ve been pushed aside and trampled on by those we thought loved us most and cared for us best. We’ve been raised to be selfish and to desire instant gratification. Sadly we got this from our parents and those above us. But, the church needs to reach out to those who are broken and distant. How? We need to love. Is this not the greatest of them all? I think its great how the Lord has been chiseling away at my heart on this subject and led me to this page through a google search on “what does rend your hearts mean?” Its no coincidence. Thank you for this posting! Lets let GOD live through us, instead of US living for God. Check out the song “rend your hearts” by Jimmy Needham.
Be blessed and encouraged!

I’ve been very much ministered to because my choir is having a program and the theme is ‘Rend your heart and not your garment’. ↲ Most of the time during worship, there is the activity of rendering our garment, what i call ‘the spiritual gymnastics’ but i believe God is calling us to a place where we’ll give our all to Him in truth. I’m so blessed by this.

absolutley amazing.. God blows me away because last night i was reading my bible and i came across this passage in joel and i wanted to know what rend your heart ment and i typed it in and it came to this and i was completely blown away with what i read, ive recentley preached on surrendering our hearts and also on trusting the lord with all our hearts and leaning not on our own standing and to hear this fits in lovley with it all, God dosent want us to be like the pharisees looking good for others to see he wants us to be transparent and in full devotion to him at all times who are we when no-ones looking? Gods not interested in our outer appearence but our inner!! our heart! wow what a God we serve….
